Before you start
- Payments and expenses are recorded for the period.
What the report tells you
Cash flow focuses on timing: when money was actually received and when costs were recorded or paid.
Review cash flow
- 1
Open Cash Flow
Go to Reports, then Cash Flow.
- 2
Choose a useful period
Use a weekly view for short-term decisions and a monthly or quarterly view for patterns.
- 3
Review cash coming in
Look at collected payments, deposits, and other recorded inflows—not only invoices sent.
- 4
Review cash going out
Compare expenses and major cost categories with the work completed during the period.
- 5
Plan the next action
Use overdue collections, upcoming payroll, and purchasing needs to decide what requires attention first.

Cash flow and profit are different
A profitable month can still have tight cash if customers have not paid. Use Aging Receivables alongside this report.
